Acupuncture is an ancient practice that seeks to re-establish balance in the body for optimal health by inserting very fine, solid needles into points along energy channels in the body (meridians). The method is thought to impact the body’s central nervous system and brain waves, creating harmony that allows the body to function properly and heal itself.

Bec Jimenez is a recent graduate of the Won Institute of Graduate Studies in Glenside, PA, where she completed a 3 year graduate program. In her experience treating patients she has seen acupuncture eradicate chronic pain, heal physical injuries, ease emotional and mental blocks (including depression and anxiety) and soothe spiritual setbacks such as struggling to find one’s purpose in life..

Bec was first introduced to acupuncture when it helped her kick an 8 year long nicotine addiction and has first-handedly experienced the power of complementary health care when traditional methods failed. She is now an intuitive acupuncturist with extensive training in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. Bec loves working with women’s health related issues including hormonal and menstrual imbalance, fertility and prenatal care.

Acupuncture is suitable for everyone and Bec will make any accommodations you need for comfort or mobility. Bec is a fluent Spanish speaker, priding herself on creating access to acupuncture for our Spanish speaking community members who feel comfortable communicating about their healthcare needs in their primary language! Learn Reiki Philadelphia is fully handicapped accessible and conveniently located.

Acupuncture Treatment –  A personally tailored session based upon your unique symptoms, health milestones and goals. Patients typically report extreme relaxation during treatment and a drastic improvement in their symptoms and overall health after they complete their personalized treatment plan (approx. 5-6 visits for acute health concerns, 9-10 visits for chronic issues). The nature, severity, and history of each individual’s complaints, as well as the individual themselves determine the number of treatments necessary. Before getting started, Bec will create and discuss the best treatment options for you.

Initial visit: 60 minutes (15 min intake, 45min treatment) and cost $100

Follow up visit: 60 minutes (10min check in, 50 min treatment) and cost $90

*Cupping or Moxibustion can be added to a treatment for an additional $20 if suggested by your acupuncturist, details below.

Acupuncture with Cupping –  Cupping is similar to an inverse of massage – rather than applying pressure to muscles, it uses the gentle pressure of suction to pull them upward. With the use of a manual suction pump, special cups that are placed on the skin and the air is carefully “sucked out”. The cups can be gently moved across the skin (often referred to as “gliding cupping”) or remain stationary.

For most patients, this is a particularly relaxing and relieving sensation (although it can leave “suction” marks that look like circular bruising, so let us know if you need to have unmarked skin and we will be super gentle!). Once suctioned, the cups are generally left in place for about ten minutes while you relax. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and calm the nervous system. Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff or fatigued muscles, limited range of motion in the arms or legs, anxiety, and headaches.

Please note this treatment is not for individuals with clotting or blood disorders, and is done in conjunction with an acupuncture treatment at the therapist’s recommendation.

Moxibustion – the burning of mugwort, otherwise known as moxa on the tips of acupuncture needles or directly on top of acupuncture points. It is used on people who have an interior cold or internal stagnation (this will be determined by the acupuncturist) . The burning of moxa warms the acupuncture channels, which leads to smoother circulation. It is especially beneficial for achey joints and gynecological conditions. Moxibustion is especially used to successfully turn breech presentation babies to help them get into the correct position prior to being birthed. It is especially beneficial for joint pain, gynecological conditions and digestive issues.

Patients report feeling a deep sense of warmth throughout the body that carries on for days after treatment.

Please note this treatment is not for individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure, and is done in conjunction with an acupuncture treatment at the therapist’s recommendation.
